Barca’s difficult financial situation has caused this team to part ways with the team’s number 1 player, Lionel Messi. Even before the 2021/22 La Liga season was about to take place, rookies Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia were in danger of not being able to register to play.
However, Gerard Pique was the one who took the initiative to reduce his salary to help Barca’s rookie duo register to play. It was also the Spanish midfielder who called for the other captains of the team to reduce their salaries to help the host team.
Pique had a nice action with Barca
Recently, Barca captain midfielder Sergio Busquets has actively reduced his salary to help the Catalan team implement the regulations on wages and transfer fees of La Liga. With this action of Busquets, he became the third player to accept a cut in income after Jordi Alba and Gerard Pique made similar moves. Before that, Barca still owed Busquets money from salary delays.
The 33-year-old Spaniard has been with Barca since 2005 and his current contract runs until 2023. Busquets was made the new captain of the Catalan team after Lionel Messi joined PSG.
Busquets is the next name to accept a salary reduction
Currently, Barca is not reaching an agreement to reduce wages from Sergi Roberto. The 29-year-old may still take a pay cut, but he is not satisfied with the terms of the team. The player’s contract expires next summer. However, Barca is looking to extend this player for another 2 years but will reduce his current salary by 40%. Currently, the Spaniard is being watched by many other clubs.
A disgraced player at Barca, Samuel Umtiti, also accepted a salary reduction. The French defender wants to stick with the Nou Camp team, although it is only the 6th choice in the Barca defense.
Barca has 4 points and is in 4th place after 2 rounds in La Liga. On August 29, coach Koeman and his students will welcome Getafe at the Nou Camp stadium.
